Our customers in the Caribbean and Bermuda know they can come to us with their requests -- no matter how specific or strange -- and we will find a solution for them.
One of our customers in the British Virgin Islands wanted
pressure-treated pine lumber for their exposed beams. Because the beams were exposed they needed two things:
1) No pine characteristics -- just a smooth piece
2) A pressure treatment that was not green
Okay, is exactly what we said. We worked with our mills to have them hand select the beams to meet the smooth, non-knotty appearance the customer wanted. We then had the beams pressure treated in clear. The result was both functional and BEAUTIFUL!
Because of our established relationships with our suppliers, we can make all kinds of things happen. Please contact us with your needs and we'll find a great solution for you!

A Keen Eye on Commodities in Lumber
The price of lumber fluctuates like the price of gold or grain. We
keep a careful eye on the market’s ebb and flow to help our customers
choose the right time to buy.
This is especially important for our stocking customers in the Caribbean and Bermuda. We’ll let them know if the price is good and they should stock up. If the price isn’t ideal, we’ll tell them to wait to purchase. This way they get the best bang for their buck for the lumber AND economies of scale in shipping.
We don’t want one order, we want to be your trusted partner for years to come. To learn more about our lumber capabilities, please click here.

A KLEER Choice for Exteriors
For the exteriors of homes in the Caribbean and Bermuda, wood is beautiful, but hard to maintain and can really get beaten up by the weather. We recommend a PVC product by KLEER.
KLEER is expanded, cellular PVC that looks and works like wood but has unique physical properties that make it a better choice than traditional wood for most exterior non-load-bearing applications.
- Limited lifetime warranty against splinters, rot, delamination or excessive swelling due to moisture
- Can be cut, shaped, nailed, glued, sanded and painted
- Available with a smooth surface or a wood grain surface that closely resembles natural cedar
- KLEERSnap post wraps create a finished look and protect wood posts from moisture and insects

Q&A with Jeff Collins: Moulding & Trim
We sat down with Jeff Collins, president of Global Sales, to find out more about the large array of mouldings Global Sales has to offer.
Using his vast knowledge of the construction practices in the Caribbean and Bermuda, Jeff has helped hundreds of customers find the building supplies they need and ship those products affordably and efficiently to their destination. Jeff frequently visits the area to meet with homeowners and contractors about their upcoming projects.
Q. Why do you offer so many choices in mouldings?
A. We want to be able to meet every need our customers may have. That’s why we offer everything from high end, custom mouldings made from exotic wood species to basic trim profiles at low prices. Plus, many other options for different scenarios – indoor, outdoor, curved ceilings, radial windows. Just tell us what you have and we’ll help you find the right product for your space and your budget.
Q. How should a customer select the right moulding type for their project?
A. The best thing to do is give us a call to discuss your project. We’ve helped hundreds of customers and contractors find the right product for their project. Think about your design and your budget – do you want your trim and door jambs to match your flooring or doors? Are you going to paint your trim? If you are doing a historical restoration, we can replicate existing elements to help you meet local building codes.
Also, think about how you can carry the design throughout your home. Moulding has the ability to unify a home as a common element that creates continuity from room to room.
Q. Where should people look for inspiration?
A. We have a lot of photos on our website for ideas. Magazines are also a great place to go for inspiration.
Q. What is the coolest project you've ever done with moulding?
A. Two interesting ones come to mind. On one job, we had enormous arch top windows, and we put together an arched casing package that coupled multiple moulding profiles that really turned out well.
On another project, we did beams that were part of the roof structure with a sculpted profile at the end of the beams that protruded out into the fascia on the exterior of the building. These touches and attention to detail made these buildings really stand out.
Q. What is important to note about using exterior mouldings in Bermuda and the Caribbean?
A. Finding the right product for the right situation. We work closely with several manufacturers and have used their products for years. So, we know what not only looks good from a design perspective, but what will hold up to the heat, ocean spray, rain and other conditions in Bermuda and the Caribbean.
There are great, durable, low maintenance options with so many design variations. Fypon and KLEER Trimboard have some incredible products designed for the outdoors that really perform. We want you to buy the product one time and enjoy it for years to come.
Q. How do you know how much to order? Can Global Sales help with that?
A. Absolutely. We can do plan take offs, and work with your contractor. If you are doing it yourself, we’ll walk you through what measurements are necessary. We’ll also make sure you have enough extra material to account for mitered cuts and waste. We want to make sure you have everything you need to get the job done without having to wait for another shipment.
If you are installing the moulding yourself, we can give you some great tips to getting the most out of your project.

Door Handing for Your Patio Doors
Thinking about installing new patio doors?
Here are a few tips for ordering:
The French Doors from Jeld-Wen are outswing doors, which means, when you are standing outside of the building, the doors swing toward you.
Double Doors
You can specify which door is active and which door is passive.
The active door is the main operating door that has the locking mechanism. You open this door first. The passive door is the second one that opens and is usually held in place by a flush bolt at top and bottom.
From the outside of your home, specify which door will be active and which will be passive. For instance, if you want the door on your left hand side to open first, then you'll specify that the left door is active.
Single Doors
When ordering, you can specify your door handing -- which side the handle will be placed. Handing is measured from OUTSIDE your home:

Jeld-Wen's ImpactGard Protection
We recommend ImpactGard protection glass to our customers because it holds up to the elements in Bermuda and the Caribbean. Plus, since it is already impact glass, you don't need to add the expense of hurricane shutters.
Jeld-Wen's ImpactGard glass is engineered and tested to stand up to the strong impacts of windborne debris, as well as the harsh conditions inherent to coastal areas. With the industry’s leading laminated glass technology, windows with ImpactGard protection can withstand a nine-pound piece of lumber striking the glass head-on at approximately 34 miles per hour. In addition, it significantly reduces sound transmission, blocks up to 95 percent of harmful UV rays, and offers superior forced-entry resistance.
To learn more about ImpactGard glass, visit our French Doors or Windows page.

Roof Collection and Water Tank Tips
Water is such a precious resource -- one we use and depend on every day. Global Sales can help you revamp your current water system or order a water system for new construction. You'll enjoy a more energy-efficient, effective system with the great options we offer. Click here to find out more.
Plus, here are some helpful roof collection and water tank tips from Bermuda's Ministry of Works and Engineering:
- Keep the roof clean and painted
- Before cleaning, block the drain pipes so that nothing enters the tank
- Check your tank levels regularly, at least once a month
- Clean your tank at least once every five years
- Disinfect water – 1/4 cup of household bleach to every 1000 gallons of water. Use formula: tank length x tank width x tank depth x 6.25 = tank capacity in gallons
- Trim overhanging trees to prevent leaves from entering your tank
- Consider using a qualified contractor to clean your tank
- When purchasing water, remember only buy enough to take your tank to about half, always leave enough space for rainwater collection

Wood Flooring Installation Methods
One of the great things about wood flooring, aside from the stunning appearance, is the installation. You have a few installation choices depending on your subfloor and the type of wood floor you choose. Here's a quick look at the installation methods:
Nail Down – With this option, the floor is nailed directly into a wood subfloor.
Glue Down – You can glue down most engineered wood to a properly treated concrete subfloor or wood subfloor.
Float – Floating flooring comes two ways: You can either click and lock the planks together, like with Kahrs flooring, or glue together the planks at the tongue and groove – where they fit together. The finished product "floats" over the underlayment – similar to the way a dance floor works.

Charlie's Picks - Lighting
My next pick is lighting. It's and easy change that can update the look of any room. There are literally thousands of choices to choose from, some cost effective choices I suggest looking at first are from Progress Lighting and Kichler Lighting. Check out our image gallery and online store.
If you are hardwiring a new fixture, to be safe turn off the MAIN breaker first. Sometimes lights aren't wired to the room they say they are in the breaker box!
Satin and Brushed Nickel finishes are quite popular with interior decorators right now. For a complete updated look, think about switching out door handles and hardware to match the finish with lighting fixtures. You might want to think about coordinating plumbing fixtures in bathrooms, too.
If you decide to change the door hardware to match, Satin Stainless finish is very similar in appearance, you might not notice the difference unless you know look for it. I always recommend satin stainless door hardware, as it holds up better to corrosion.

Quartz Image Gallery
Check out all the possibilities with a quartz countertop at our Quartz Photo Gallery. Quartz offers so much in terms of selection. Whether your look is sleek and contemporary or traditional and elegant, you'll find a Quartz countertop and edge option that will meet your needs.
Plus, Quartz by Silestone is so resilient and maintenance free. There are only three other natural minerals — diamond, sapphire and topaz — that are harder than quartz. So, while a careless slip of the knife will scratch most other countertops such as laminates and solid surfaces, it won't leave a mark on Quartz by Silestone. Silestone is a compound made up of 94% natural quartz – an extremely hard surface that resists acids, stains and scratches. Click here to learn more about the many countertops we offer.

Charlie's Picks - Shower Enclosures
Shower enclosures are a great way to add a dramatic effect to your existing shower. Simply add new faucets and a shower enclosure and you can very affordably transform your entire bathroom with an upscale feel.
I like shower enclosures because they really open up a small space and make it seem larger with more depth. Plus, if you invested in tile, the glass door lets you showcase your tile design.
There are several options including frameless and framed. Each piece is custom built for you and carefully crated and packed so it arrives safely and ready for installation. Contact us today to get more information or for a no obligation quote.

What Makes Global Sales Different?
Often when we talk to a new customer, the first thing they ask is what makes Global Sales different or what can you offer that other companies can't.
We've put together a quick side-by-side comparison of what Global Sales offers vs. working with other companies.
Exporting products to Bermuda and the Caribbean is what we do – and we do it well. We know how things have to be packaged, what paperwork is required, and what the shipping deadlines are, so that your shipment will be accepted and your project kept on track.
We focus on the big picture of your project and – at the same time – handle the small things that make a big difference to your budget and your schedule. We always send extra finishing pieces, we make sure your items are properly marked, we stay on top of your order through our established relationships with manufacturers and shippers.
YOU are our business, and we are dedicated to knowing and doing everything possible to help you succeed.

Hurricane Season: Stand By Generators
Especially during hurricane season, enjoy convenience and peace of mind with an automatic stand by generator. A back up to your electrical system, the generator operates whether you are home or away. Within seconds of an outage, it automatically supplies power directly to your home’s electrical circuit breaker box.
After utility power returns, the generator shuts itself off and waits for the next outage. It operates on natural gas or liquid propane gas and sits outside just like a central air conditioning unit.
After a storm or during any power outage, it is important to keep clean water pumping and your food supply fresh.
Check out the video to learn more about how stand-by generators work. Contact us for pricing and info.

Hurricane Season Checklist
June 1st means Hurricane Season has arrived. Check out our Hurricane Season page to learn more about hurricane shutters, impact resistant windows and doors, and stand by generators.
Here is the checklist and hurricane help measures that Bermuda's EMO (Emergency Measures Organization) advises:
Here is the checklist and hurricane help measures that Bermuda's EMO (Emergency Measures Organization) advises:
- Collect and bring inside all the loose stuff that may be lying outdoors like garden furniture, plants on pots, barbecues etc. Two wheelers should be brought inside.
- Put the window shutters in place. When the hurricane strikes, it is advisable that you keep one window shutter open by an inch in order to reduce pressure build up.
- Remember that if the eye of the storm passes overhead, a strong wind in an opposite direction will return.
- During the storm, unplug all electronic goods that do not have surge protections. Also pull out the transmission cable from the TV socket. Keep only one light switched on.
- If you see there are torn out electrical wires or branches that have fallen on wires, do not touch them. They may be live and can be fatal.
- If you use a portable generator, ensure that it has been properly earthed. Use it outdoor under a shade. Appliances should be directly plugged into the generator rather than putting the generator into the house lines.
- Take gas for your vehicles and fill up the tanks in advance. However cooking gas cylinders should not be used.
- In areas where there may be seawater contamination, any pipes coming from the roof or other places and leading to the water tank should be closed off.
